Combining microreactor technology with ATR-IR for In situ characterization

A silicon-based microreactor with a structure that allows in situ characterization by Attenuated Total Internal Reflection Infrared spectroscopy (ATR-IR) of processes driven by an external electric field (E-field) is presented (doi:10.1016/j.snb.2015.05.02). After careful characterization and microreactor system integration, our results show that our ATR-IR microreactor has the ability to follow in situ gas and liquid phase chemical reactions during the application of an E-field. Exciting 'E-field-driven chemistry' is expected to be studied with this device.
