David completed his bachelor in “Biomedische Technologie” at the University of Twente in Enschede. In 2015 he started with the master Biomedical Engineering in the Bionanotechnology & Advanced Biomanufacturing track. For his internship he worked in the Biocarrier group of Pedro Granja at Instituto De Engenharia Biomédica (INEB) in Porto. Here the diffusion of fluorescent PLGA nanoparticles in alginate microspheres was characterized.
The aim of the master thesis is to develop and characterize a basement membrane using sprayed hydrogels. After successful fabrication, the attachment of brain endothelial cells, astrocytes and the formation of a tight cell layer (the blood-brain barrier) on this membrane will be studied.
