The research in the Energy Technology Group focuses on the thermal conversion and application of biofuels. The fundamental aspects of combustion, gasification and pyrolysis of biomass, waste and other fuels are studied in our well-equipped laboratory. Furthermore, these processes are developed into efficient and low-cost technology. Parallel to the experimental work, mathematical models are developed as a design tool for these thermal conversion processes.
Our ambition is ”To develop efficient, economical and sustainable technologies for the conversion of biomass and waste into sustainable fuels, heat and power.”
Research areas are:
- Combustion of Biofuels: Waste combustion in grate furnaces, biomass co-firing in coal fired power plants and combustion of bio-oil in gas turbines and engines.
- Production of sustainable fuels (solid, liquid, gas): Sustainable fuels are produced via the following processes: Flash pyrolysis, Gasification, Torrefaction and Drying.
