FAQ Blackboard for students
When you register for a course or TEM module in OSIRIS, you will automatically be registered for the accompanying Blackboard course. This is also the case when registering for an exam. When you deregister from a course in OSIRIS, you will also be automatically deregistered from the accompanying Blackboard course.
Personally registering in OSIRIS can only be done during the registration period in OSIRIS. The Student Services webpage lists the registration periods per quartile. If you would like to register for a course after the registration period has lapsed, you need to contact your faculty's BOZ.
After registering in OSIRIS, it will take no more than ten minutes for you to also be registered for the Blackboard course (processing within 10 minutes only applies between 06.00 and 23.00 hours). All of the courses will automatically become available to registered students two weeks prior to the start of the new quartile. All registrations carried out before this time will also be processed, but you don't have access to the Blackboard course yet. You do see the course listed in My Courses, and the date that it will become accessible.
If you still do not see the course in My Courses in Blackboard one day after registration in OSIRIS, email the Blackboard Support of your faculty.
If you would like to do only one particular unit of a module, you should not register for the module in OSIRIS. Contact your faculty's BOZ if you would like to do only one unit of a module, but have to have access to that module's Blackboard course. Please refer to the email addresses below:
No, the connected registration is not related to Blackboard organisations. Registering for Organisations will continue to be done via Blackboard.
Lecturers can set their courses as accessible for guests. That means that you can get access to the course without being registered, simply by clicking on the course in the Blackboard course catalogue. By default this is not activated, so you have to ask the lecturer if he/she wants to to activate it (information for lecturers about this setting can be found here).
If not, you can find information about a course in the OSIRIS course catalogue or you can ask the lecturer.
I am a Research Assistant/PhD/PDEng and follow a number of courses. How can I register in Blackboard?
In order to register for a Blackboard course, you can send an email to your faculty's Blackboard support, stating the module or course code, the module or course name and your m-number.
I am a student assistant for a course. Who can register me for the appropriate Blackboard course?
Lecturers are authorised to add users in Blackboard to a Blackboard course. You can approach the lecturer of the subject in order to get access to the course.
I have registered for a course in OSIRIS, but I would like to deregister. Can I personally deregister from a course in Blackboard?
If you would like to deregister from a course you have been registered for, you can do so through OSIRIS. Please make sure you do this within the registration period. (The Student Services webpage lists the registration periods per quartile.) If you would like to deregister from a course after the registration period has lapsed, you need to file a written request with BOZ.
If you are registered for a module, but decide that you no longer want to do that particular module, you can personally deregister via OSIRIS up to a day before the start of the module.
Should you wish do deregister from the module after the registration period has lapsed, you need to contact your study adviser.
Deregistrations are processes only once a night. If after several days you still haven't been deregistered from the Blackboard course, you can contact your faculty's Blackboard Support.
If you have achieved marks for a course in OSIRIS, you can no longer be deregistered in OSIRIS and, subsequently, in Blackboard. However, you can hide the Blackboard course under 'My Courses'. Click the 'Settings' button in the title bar of 'My Courses' and make sure that you deselect all the boxes of the course that you wish to hide.
You will be deregistered from the Blackboard course if you no longer have any registration for the course in OSIRIS: neither for an instructional mode nor for a test. As long as you are still registered for the course (even though you deregister from the test), you will remain registered for the Blackboard course.
I deregistered myself from OSIRIS, because I had erroneously registered for the module, while I only want to follow a part of a module. What are the consequences for Blackboard?
When you deregister from a course in OSIRIS, you will also be automatically deregistered from the accompanying Blackboard course. Please note: deregistering from OSIRIS has consequences for assignments submitted via Blackboard and for group registrations.
In order to get access to the module's Blackboard course: send an email to your faculty's Blackboard support, stating the module code or the name of the module and your student's number. You will be re-registered with the Blackboard course as soon as possible.
I have another question about the connected registration. Who can I contact?
For Blackboard-related questions, contact your faculty's Blackboard Support staff.
For questions relating to the registration for or deregistration from courses or modules, contact Student Services.
When you save an assignment, you do not hand it in, but you only save it on Blackboard. The instructor cannot see your assignment then. When you submit, you really hand it in.
The instructor can allow you an extra attempt, so you have to ask your instructor to do that.
