Lunch Lecture Philosophy
Japanese philosophy
Modern philosophy in Japan goes back to the 19th century. However, a variety of relevant philosophical ideas arose long before within various intellectual and spiritual frameworks. This lecture demonstrates the potential inherent in Japanese philosophy by focusing on the idea of “knowing by becoming the thing itself” articulated by Nishida Kitarō (1870-1945).
Raquel Bouso Garcia is senior lecturer at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. Her PhD-thesis was about the notion of emptiness in the thought of Nishitani Keiji (1900–1990). Her research interests include intercultural philosophy, East Asian religions and thought, particularly Japanese Zen and Kyoto School.
