FOR WHOM?  

Consortium leadership

The program is offered to UT PhD’s, Postdocs and Tenure Trackers  who prepare for their growing responsibilities in representing UT in R&D consortia. Learning to adopt leadership roles in consortia. In small training groups (8-12) we introduce you to the essentials of working ‘in-between’ organizations and interests. UT professors are invited to introduce and recommend participants to this biannual 2 day program. Please bring your own practice to the meetings for reflection and discussion. 

CONTENT

Interdependencies, synergies, identities
R&D consortia in which UT participates are widely diverse considering technical disciplines, academic and private interests and national work cultures. The relational dynamics caused by this diversity demand a lot of its leadership. Strengthening leadership in consortia is therefore an important present-day (valorisation-)theme. Our two day program helps consortium leaders better handle this working context. So consortia can speed up the collaborative effort and build more collective capacity around their joint ‘consortium-task’. Our program differs from  traditional programs aimed at ‘technical’ aspects of consortium building (proposal writing, project management etc.). We focus on the (work-)relational  issues of multi-party collaboration and their impact on success.

Themes and objectives

  • Learn to develop effective working relations in addition to the pre-designed ‘mechanical structure of collaboration’ (see your Consortium Agreement).
  • Learn to deal with (and capitalize on) the diversity of people, perspectives and positions.
  • Learn about your personal effectiveness and ‘leadership’ in a multi-party setting. Handle with care and confidence the complexities of multi-party collaboration.

Drs. Akkelien Bergsma, HR Policy Advisor Training & Development UNIVERSITY OF TWENTE tel: + 31 53 4896721. Mw. Prof. Dr. M. Vollenbroek and Prof. Dr. H. Hermens are the UT ambassadors watching over the relevance of the program to its target group. The content of the program is presented by experts who combine academic and leadership roles in multi-party organization (Drs. F. Grobbe, Mw. Prof.Dr. S. Schruijer).  Participants are invited to bring their own ‘Consortium-case’ into the program.

DURATION AND TIME INVESTMENT

The program for a training group (8-12) has two full days with appr. 6 weeks in between.The study load for this course is roughly equivalent to 1 ECTS.
