The program is offered to (young) academics who are in the (early) stages of their professional career with growing responsibilities in representing UT in consortia or even have to lead the consortium (or parts of it) all together. From this target audience small training groups (8-12) will be formed. UT professors are invited to introduce and recommend participants to this program who seem fit to join in the interest of both their personal and also the universities organizational development and success in (international) R&D Consortia.

UT R&D consortia are widely diverse regarding their technical disciplines, academic and private interests and national work cultures. The complexity and dynamics caused by this diversity demand a lot of its leadership. Strengthening collaboration in consortia and teams is therefore an important present-day (valorisation-)theme in the academic field. Our two day program supports (commencing) consortium leaders better understand consortium dynamics and the means to intervene in it. In this way consortia can speed up their collaborative effort and collective capacity around their joint ‘consortium-task’. Our program differs from more traditional programs aimed at the ‘technical’ aspects of consortium building (proposal writing, project management etc.). We focus on the ‘socialpsychological’ issues of multi-party collaboration and their impact on the constructive or destructive dynamics in the consortium (trust, fairness, authority, conflict, etc.).

Themes and objectives

- Relate the formal structure of collaboration (as for instance sketched in a Consortium Agreement) to the ‘here and now’ interaction. Consider the concept of ‘minimal structure’.
- Recognize the dynamics of diversity and the most important (dys-)functional patterns in multiparty collaboration. Develop an intervention repertoire for capitalizing on diversity.
- Personal effectiveness and the meaning of ‘leadership’ in a multi-party setting. Learn to handle with care and confidence the (relational) complexities of multi-party collaboration.
