The Health Psychology Research programme (HPR) aims to contribute to knowledge about psychological and social processes that enable or impede people’s adaptation to chronic somatic illness. The intention is to resolve the psychological problems experienced by people with chronic somatic illness and their significant others. The ultimate goal is to develop adequate psychosocial care for people who experience difficulties in adapting to a chronic somatic illness. In pursuing these objectives, the programme aims to uphold the highest standards of scientific research and to share its knowledge through publications of its findings in renowned international journals and presentations for a broader audience (not only professional colleagues, but also patients). The training of junior researchers, at both the master’s and PhD levels, constitutes an essential part of the programme.
The internship (it is possible to write a Masterthesis as well). The student will be asked to join a team of tenured staff members and research master students. The team is currently in the process of designing two studies in the area of E-Health. The PGT student will be asked being actively involved in these studies and to give added value to the process of designing it (e.g. reviewing literature on the subject, interviewing stakeholders, analysing focus group data and logdata, think along on the design of the programs). Hence, specific knowledge concerning designing and evaluating E-Health will be very valuable. The student will formulate a set of tasks within these projects which will lead (to at least) a report which will be part of the design of the studies. It is a real teameffort, so we expect you to like to work in a team of students, postdocs and tenured staff members.
E-Health Programs and topics. One programme (Tired of Cancer, See: https://tiredofcancerapp.com). is a program to support patients with cancer to learn to cope with fatigue. We did a small pilot (in English speaking countries) and are in the process helping out to re-design the program and to work out a design for an efficacy study. The other project will focus on young people in Mexico who are overweighed and have Diabetes. We will probably work with the Platform Vitalinq (See: http://www.vitalinq.nl) in order to support the patients in their self-management. A Spanish version is underway and we will probably use a part of the program tweaked for the target group. The research master student already collected data in focus groups in Mexico this summer. We aim to set up a small scale feasibility study in the coming year. This internship is suitable for international students. Knowledge of Dutch or Spanish language is not necessary.
