Simon Huisman was born in 1986 in the Netherlands. He received his MSc degree in Applied Physics at the University of Twente in 2010 with a thesis on photonic band gap crystals. As part of his MSc studies he studied abroad at CERN and the University of Calgary. The MSc work was partly done at AMOLF in the Photonic Band Gap group. The PhD project was continued on light transport in ordered and disordered nanophotonic media in the SRO Applied Nanophotonics in close collaboration with the Complex Photonic Systems chair and Optical Sciences chair. In 2013 he successfully defended his PhD. Simon is currently working as a post doc in both chairs on the topic of adaptive quantum optics.
