A leading centre of expertise in nanotechnology

MESA+ is one of the world’s leading nanotechnology research institutes. A total of 525 researchers work together on cutting-edge research at the highest level. Our research focusses on key enabling technologies – nanotechnology, photonics, micro- and nano-electronics, biomolecular and polymer science, advanced materials, lab-on-chip, microfluidics – and exciting new cross-overs. Benefiting from facilities that rank among the very best on the globe, our researchers deliver high-quality, competitive and frequently ground-breaking research.

With access to world-class academic expertise in many disciplines – from mathematics and computer science to chemistry, physics and many others – we benefit from an unusually high degree of interdisciplinary synergy.

The results are evident in our numerous publications as well as in various high-profile achievements in our four main application areas:  

MESA+ offers a state-of-the-art NanoLab with a floor area of 1250 square meters. Users are offered a unique laboratory with a wide variety of technologies and equipment to develop an almost unlimited number of applications. Next to scientific researchers is the laboratory space and equipment of the MESA+ NanoLab used for 40% by industrial partners.
