MESA+ University of Twente

EU-India workshop & EICOON school

The first EICOON workshop/school was held in New Delhi (1-4 Nov. 2010) to address the strategic assessment of nanomaterials needs in energy research within Europe and India.

EICOON is a European FP7 project, coordinated by the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology, consisting of 12 research institutes from Europe and India, which focuses on addressing gaps and overlaps of nanomaterials research and training needs in sustainable energy technologies in Europe and India.

The first EICOON workshop/school was a 4 day event in New Delhi locally organized by the Indian Institute of Technology - Delhi (see program below). The workshop was officially opened with a current status overview of nanoscience in India and Europe by respectively Dr. T. Ramasami (Secretary of the Department of Science Technology, India) and Dr. P. de Taxis du Poët (First Counsellor and Head of Science & Technology of the Delegation of the European Union to India).

During the two-day workshop about 70 scientists and policymakers from Europe and India discussed various research topics for sustainable energy. The final conclusions will be incorporated in the assessment reports of the EICOON project, which will be made public in Spring 2011. The last two days the EICOON school was attended by about 120 PhD students from India to listen to lectures about state-of-the-art nanomaterials research for energy applications. During the total event 41 invited lectures were given by scientists and policymakers from Europe and India.
