VPN

Virtual Private Network is a connection via the Internet between your PC (workplace) and the UT. In a manner of speaking, your PC is then directly connected to the UTnet. This enables you to use the services only available via the UTnet.

The services mentioned below require an IP address of the UT (130.89.x.x), therefore a connection has to be made with VPN. In some cases, it is also possible to log in via the ICT account in order to still be able to use the service.

·

Access to most University Library catalogues and databases

·

Internal text portions of the UT homepage(s)

·

Outgoing mail servers of the UT: smtp.utwente.nl.

·

The news server news.utwente.nl (logging in/authentication possible outside of the UTnet via the ICT account)

·

Access to P/M drive (or other network data drives at the UT)

·

Access to shared folders on PCs on the UTnet

Below are links to the manuals for setting up VPN. There are two options: VPN via Windows or via OpenVPN. The latter uses an encoded connection, which is useful when sending confidential data.
