Logging in to eduroam means that, as well as being able to use the wireless networks on the University of Twente campus, you can also use the networks of numerous other universities and colleges in the Netherlands, Europe and elsewhere in the world. Students and staff who have a utwente account are able to use the eduroam network.
Eduroam, the wireless network of the UT, is accessible by everyone who holds a UT ICT account (m<employee number>@utwente.nl of s<student number>@utwente.nl).
Students from other universities or establishments that participate in eduroam can also use the wireless network facilities at the University of Twente. The username is always followed by @institution (e.g. email@example.com for Saxion and firstname.lastname@example.org for ITC). Vice versa, the UT ICT account also provides access to eduroam at sites elsewhere in the Netherlands and abroad (always with @utwente.nl); see information regarding this on the eduroam website. Also on this website is a list of the sites where eduroam is available.
There is wireless coverage in the education buildings, the Campus-based student accommodation, a large area of the UT site.
To be able to use eduroam at the UT, you need a laptop, tablet or smartphone which has a Wi-Fi network card, preferably a multichannel IEEE 802.11n (2.4 GHz and 5GHZ). If necessary, ask the Notebook Service Centre for information.
Formal support is currently only available for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7; for other operating systems such as Linux and Mac OS and different types of smartphones, you can go to the SNT. Manuals are available through the links at the bottom of this page.
ICT account applications for external individuals.
If a guest needs an account for a longer period of time to make use of UT ICT services, UT staff members can apply for an x-account through the Self Service Portal.
Wireless network access for external individuals
It is possible for guests to make use of the wireless network, for example Eduroam Visitor Acces (EVA) http://www.utwente.nl/lisa/eva (max. 5 accounts). Employees can apply for such an account through the ICTS Self Service Portal. On campus the open Wifi network (Enschede_stad_van_nu) can also be used. This open Wifi network does not need an account.
