Telephone calls with Skype for Business

I am unable to make calls using Skype for Business.

1: Are you unable to log in with the Skype for Business client?

Has your account been set up for Skype for Business by the ICT Service Desk? Are you using the correct log-in details (access from home)?

2: Are you unable to hear anything?

Has your device been properly configured? Are your volume settings correct?

3: Are other people unable to call you using Skype for Business?

Has your phone number been ported to Skype for Business?

4: Make sure you are signed in with your preferred email address.

The connection is lost after a few loud beeps

Someone else is likely still logged in on this computer. Make sure the other person logs off on your computer.

The other person’s sound is hollow or stutters.

There are several possible causes. Please contact the ICT Service Desk.

Can I use Skype for Business to make phone calls from home?

You are connected to Skype for Business as soon as you are connected to the internet. This allows you to make phone calls using Skype for Business in locations other than your workstation. You do need to have the Skype for Business client installed on your notebook or workstation at home.

I am unable to link Skype for Business to click-to-call hyperlinks (TEL protocol)

If both Skype for Business and Chrome are installed on your computer, you may not be able to properly configure the TEL protocol. Follow the steps on this website in order to solve the problem.

Why does the headset not work?

There are several possible causes.

1.            The headset needs charging.

2.            There are too many Bluetooth devices in the vicinity, such as mice, mobile phones, etc.

3.            The headset is broken.

4.            The volume levels of the headset/speakers have not been properly tuned.

5.            The headset is being used without the corresponding Bluetooth dongle (or with an

incompatible dongle).

6. The operating system’s sound has to be enabled.

People have trouble calling me

There are several possible causes.

1.

Check the network connection of your laptop or PC.

2.

Check whether your status is set to Available in Skype for Business. Skype for Business uses information from your calendar. If your status is set to Do not disturb in your calendar, people will not be able to call you.

3.

There are too many Bluetooth devices in the area (with a Bluetooth headset).

4.

Your location has a very poor network connection.

Chatting with Skype for Business

How can I prevent my co-workers from contacting me via Instant Messaging (chat application)

Change your status to Do not disturb or sign out. Note: if you sign out, people will not be able to call you anymore.

I keep getting pop-up alerts. How can I disable them?

The alerts display the status of certain contacts. These are contacts you set up to display an alert when they change their status. You can turn off this option by right-clicking on the contact and unchecking the option Tag for Status Change Alerts.

Conference calls with Skype for Business

Which applications am I unable to share with others using Skype for Business?

You are unable to share the following applications in Skype for Business:

Skype for Business 2010 itself

·

Windows Explorer

·

Windows Sidebar

·

Applications that higher user rights than those you are using to execute Skype for Business.

You can, however, share these applications via desktop sharing.

I would like to add a co-worker to my group call, but I am getting an error notification

You are probably seeing the following error: “One or more selected contacts can’t be added as authorized people or as group members for team calls. The contact is located outside of your organization, there may be an automated service, or your Skype for Business version is not used at your contact’s location.”

Some possible causes include:

a.

Your co-worker has not been activated for Skype for Business yet.

b.

Your co-worker has been activated for Skype for Business, but has not signed up yet. After your co-worker has signed up, you can add them to a team call after approximately fifteen minutes.

Troubleshooting in Skype for Business

I am unable to make phone calls using Skype for Business.

2: Are you unable to hear anything?

Has your device been properly configured? Are your volume settings correct?

3: Are other people unable to call you using Skype for Business?

Has your phone number been ported to Skype for Business?

4: Check the manuals.

5: Contact the Service Desk ICT.

I get a notification that says Limited functionality is available due to outage.

There may be some server issues. The notification should disappear in about 15 minutes, or by signing out and signing back in. As long as this notification shows up, you will not be able to see your personal contacts, but you can (still) make and receive calls. You can still use the search field to find contacts.
