UT employees and students can make use of the video services offered by LISA.

Video on demand basic service (1, 2, 3)

Video distribution

Faculties and service departments can use the LISA accounts to upload videos to the Vimeo server. LISA can upload the videos, but the account can also be shared to allow faculty staff to upload the video(s) themselves. LISA makes sure sufficient accounts and upload possibilities are available.

Advice on hardware and software

Advice on hardware and software. If faculties want to make their own audio or video recordings of events or lectures or want to make podcasts, LISA can offer advice on which equipment to use. Of course, LISA can also provide information on which software is best for your purposes.

Converting existing material and making it available on Vimeo

Converting material and making it available on Vimeo. In case of existing videos/recordings, the lecturers and speakers involved are proactively approached. As of 1 April 2014, the options for hosting and publishing content have changed. If video material has to remain accessible, LISA can convert it and transfer it to the Vimeo server.

Video lecture (4, 5, 6, 7)

Video lecture (incl. screen grabbing, if required)

Video lecture + external microphone. This is the simple recording of a standard (part of a) (double) lecture (period). A double lecture period consists of 2 x 45 min of lecturing, including a 15-minute break. A lecturer or speaker is given a wireless microphone and both an audio and video recording will be made of the lecture or presentation. An accompanying PowerPoint presentation and/or any notes on a BlackBoard or whiteboard will not be filmed separately. The recorded material will be stored and made available online. The recording is made by students. Once they have finished, the requester receives an email with the link to the recording of the lecture.

Video lecture + external microphone + screen grabbing is a more extensive version of the video lecture service. The presentation on the computer used by the lecturer/speaker, which is visible on the projection screen in the room, will be recorded separately. Before the lecture is going to be recorded, a rough outline will be made of what is going to be shown.

The recording is made by students. Afterwards, the recorded material will be stored.

The requester has to book a room.

Virtual lecture (3TU)

Virtual lecture. Using the virtual lecture room to give or follow a lecture by means of professional videoconferencing equipment. A double lecture period consists of 2 x 45 min of lecturing, including a 15-minute break. Students are responsible for the execution of the service. The room has to be booked separately.

Virtual lecture (3TU) incl. recording

Virtual lecture incl. recording. Service 5, but including the recording service (as with service 4). The recorded material will be stored and made available online. The recording is made by students.

Micro lecture

Micro lecture. Depending on the preferences, there are several options for the locations where a micro lecture is to be recorded. A mini studio setting can be set up on-site. Vrijhof facilities may possibly be used. A micro lecture consists of a total of seven minutes of video material. The recording will take place without an audience, in a well-lit location with intensive support.

Live event (8, 9)

8. Event recording

Event recording. Both an audio and video recording are made. LISA staff and students are responsible for the recording. The service is all-including for one hour of recording, including prior conversations, installation and editing.

9. Live stream (service that can be added to services 4, 5, and 8)

Live stream. An audio and video recording is streamed live using Ustream.tv. The recording is stored and will be uploaded to Vimeo on request.

Videoconferencing (10, 11)

10. Videoconferencing (fixed room)

Videoconferencing (Carre 4F). The standard duration of a videoconference is set at two hours. LISA provides the equipment and the support. The booked room will be set up to meet the wishes put forward on the form, and the necessary equipment will be installed. The connection will be broadband.

11. Videoconferencing on location

You can also hold a videoconference on location. The standard duration of a videoconference is set at two hours. The faculties are charged for the costs of moving the videoconferencing equipment (in consultation possibly outside of the campus).

Video archive (12, 13)

12. Storing/archiving video material up to 2013

During the first six months of 2014, LISA has been transferring video material recorded up to 2013 to an internal, standard-level storage system. In consultation with the faculties and lecturers, it has been decided which video material needs to be stored/archived. As a result, storage/archiving costs have fallen dramatically. In 2014, faculties still have to bear the costs in proportion to the total number of recordings at the end of 2013. After 2014, they will only have to bear the costs of the material they will have actually stored.

13. Storing/archiving video material from 2014 onwards

So as to not be dependent on storing video material in Vimeo, LISA stores new video material in duplex in the standard-level storage system. This service has been available as of 1 May 2014. The costs are borne by the faculties.

Mini Do It Yourself Studio (14)

14. Mini Do It Yourself Studio LISA features a Mini DIY Studio at Citadel room T201. In this studio all equipment and facilities are available to record a video, a screencast, manuals, knowledge clip or to record a mini MOOC. The Mini Studio offers employees of faculties and departments an accessible opportunity to gain experience with creating and editing videos with a green screen. LISA is available to provide the necessary instruction and support.

REQUESTS

All video services can be requested through the Selfservice Portal.

The Mini Do It Yourself Studio can be requested through de Exchange calender “Citadel-Room T201 (Mini DIY Studio)”.

We do not check whether or not someone is allowed to request one of our services. We assume the requester to have been authorized to do so by the faculty or service department.

COSTS

Information about the costs of video services can be found on the rates page. The rates on this page have been in use with retroactive effect as of 1 January 2014.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

In order to make use of the video services, you need to be registered with the UT either as a member of staff or as a student.

All services are available on working days, from 08.30 until 17.15 hrs..

The live event and videoconferencing services may, in consultation, also be available outside office hours.

It is advised to use digital means of presentation instead of a blackboard, whiteboard or overhead sheets if you want to make use of our video lecture (4, 5 and 6) or micro lecture (7) services. In case of digital means of presentation, readability can be guaranteed.

In order to hold a videoconference (10 and 11), the conference attendees need to have a suitable network system at their disposal (not ISDN). Which information is required to establish a connection or recover a lost connection will be discussed when the appointment for the videoconference is made. The technical supervisors also have to be informed of this.

DELIVERY

Video lecture (4, 5 and 6), micro lecture (7) and Mini DIY Studio services have to be requested at least ten working days in advance.

Videoconferencing services (10 and 11) have to be requested at least three working days in advance, to allow LISA to make room and equipment available.

SUPPORT

Support is available by way of the Service Desk ICT, the Selfservice Portal and the manuals.
