Publishing open access at no additional cost

The association of universities in the Netherlands (VSNU) and publishers Elsevier, Springer, and Wiley signed new big deal agreements that not only let you access subscription-based publications, but also let you publish Open Access (OA) in selected hybrid journals at no additional cost.

In short, the big deals offer you the following opportunities:

You can publish OA at no additional cost in these 141 Elsevier journals (pdf) in the Nature and Health domains.

You can publish OA at no additional cost in almost 1.700 Springer journals in the OpenChoice programme, with the exception of titles from learned societies, BioMedCentral and SpringerOpen. You will receive a 15% discount when you publish in one of BioMedCentral’s or SpringerOpen’s full-OA journals.

You can publish OA at no additional cost in any of Wiley’s 1,400 hybrid journals, provided that you are the corresponding author and choose to make your article OnlineOpen.

The VSNU offers more information on the big deals with Elsevier, Springer and Wiley. The VSNU is still negotiating with SAGE, Oxford University Press, Taylor & Francis, the American Chemical Society, and Kluwer about new big deals that stimulate OA publishing.
