In this work package onset of instability and subsequent high-amplitude effects will be studied from an experimental and analytical perspective. At high amplitudes, nonlinear effects occur in the heat release and in the end conditions, and these lead to limit cycles. On the experimental front, active control will be employed to vary the level of instability and the limit-cycle amplitudes. The nonlinear studies on the theoretical front will use dynamical systems analysis, multiple-scales methods and other techniques suitable for nonlinear modelling. These results will be used for validation in work package 2, and for parameter estimation in work package 1.
