Task 2.2 Numerical studies (LES) of nonlinear thermo-acoustic oscillations. (CERFACS)

Unsteady Large Eddy Simulation (LES) will be taught to model the aerodynamic and combustion interaction in high-amplitude aerodynamic processes in gas flames. The ESR will also learn how to model the effects of combustion instabilities on the mechanical and thermal stresses of the liners. CERFACS has experience in this field and will pursue this work with partners such as UT/t and SIE, who have previously worked intensively with CERFACS. LES will be applied in real chambers to predict combustion oscillations and pressure fields as well as thermal stresses on liners. This task provides important information for the prediction of combustor liner life times.
