IGS research covers a diversity of fields. These include public governance, entrepreneurial and business development processes, health psychology and health systems, knowledge production, safety and security issues, and sustainability (energy and climate, environmental quality, and water). These fields cut across a range of technologies, including information and communication technologies, energy and water technologies, smart systems, biomedical technology, nanotechnology.
IGS also helps to place the University of Twente’s technological research into a wider societal context. There is clear added value derived from understanding the close relation between technology and her application, acceptance, risks and many more social science related subjects to research on both the technological and social sciences domains of the university. The IGS Centres of Expertise play a pivotal role in connecting research with society. It is through these Centres of Expertise that IGS acquires a high level of external funding.
