Life Story Interviews

In life story interviews we endeavour with the interviewees to construct the story of their lives. To this end we make use of amongst other things the life story interview as developed by Dan McAdams. This requires that the life story be divided into chapters that are described in detail. Furthermore it enquires after important moments such as high, low, and turning points, the story for the future and general values and life themes.

Currently underway are investigations into life story interviews among the elderly and among rheumatic patients. In these studies we are comparing the life stories of people in good, and less good, mental health. This way we hope to learn more about the relationship between mental health and the intrinsic structure and content of life stories.
