What characteristics and processes of life stories are related to mental health?
In the Dutch Life Story Lab we conduct fundamental research into the relationship between life stories, mental health and well-being. The development of theory and research methods lies at the heart of this fundamental research.
In order to achieve new insights, we combine narrative psychology with cognitive psychological theories on autobiographical memory, social psychological theories on self-concept and identity, psychogerontological theories on reminiscence and life review and other theories drawn from positive psychology. In addition, we experiment with innovative narrative research methods, such as life story interviews, personal memories, web-based methods, letters, and other creative methods.
