CHOLESTEROL, GLUCOSE AND BLOOD PRESSURE MEASUREMENTS

Programma%202010-6.jpg

On the basis of one blood sample, both your cholesterol and your glucose content will be measured. Often, deviations in glucose en cholesterol content are hardly noticed in the beginning; still, these levels may lead to chronic health complaints in the long term. In addition, we will measure your blood pressure, while waiting on the results of the cholesterol and glucose test. Dietician and behavioural scientist Titia van der Stelt will be present to shed some light on the test results and, if necessary, to answer questions or give advice.

Please note: in order to prevent long waiting queues, these tests will be performed only on a registration basis. Each test will take 5 minutes (excluding the dietician's advice). For an accurate reading, it is important that you arrive relaxed at your appointment, so make sure you are in time and don't have to rush.

Time:

10:00-15:00h

Locations:

Carré, Horst, Ravelijn, Spiegel, ITC

Registration:

Registration is not possible anymore, the appointments are fully booked.

SPORTS CENTRE. THE RELAX EXPRESS

The workload and the demands of today's society are growing every day. It is no coincidence that the percentage of people having a burnout is increasing (13% of the working population is emotionally exhausted; in the field of education, this figure is even higher: 19%) and that people also get burnt out at a younger age (RIVM).

It is important to stay in good shape and this concerns both physical and mental health. Taking a lunch walk is a great example of achieving this; you get your daily exercise as well as your dose of vitamin D. This in turn ensures a strong locomotor system and improves our resistance and the general mood.

It is important to have time to relax between all busy work. The Sports Centre will come to you during the lunch break! The teacher comes with the Relax Express (the bicycle full of attributes for this activity) and visit every day another building. Come on the scheduled days to the healthy week stall at 12.15 p.m. and the instructor takes you for a relaxing activity up to 45 minutes. Sportswear is not necessary.

PERSONAL LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP *

Theme: Heart rhythm variability via biofeedback

By T. Madorran (MST)

*DUTCH SPOKEN

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor Hartritmevariabiliteit

Heart Rhythm Variability Biofeedback therapy is a conscious process through which one’s breathing is slowed down to a minimum of 6 breaths per minute, thus bringing about a 10-second rhythm in the heart rate variability, slowing down one’s heartbeat.

This system is called ‘entrainment’, referring to the process by which oscillating systems become attuned to one another.

In other words, it is a mathematical way of influencing our own heart rate, which results in improved physiological processes and a decrease in stress levels. It is also a very practical way to stop worrying.

Recent research shows that for patients with all sorts of cardiac issues, doing individual HRV biofeedback and participating in personally developed group meetings (a combination of positive psychology, cognitive therapy, HRV and mindfulness) causes a significant decrease in the risk of anxiety and depression, and lowers the heart rate and blood pressure. But HRV is not only beneficial for patients with cardiac issues; for example, people with stress-related complaints (stress at work, for example) could also benefit greatly.

During the workshop, extensive attention will be paid to the practice of HRV, but also to the scientific substantiation for it being used to combat cardiac issues.

STUDIUM GENERALE LECTURE
‘Putting your best leg forward with a prosthetic?’

*DUTCH SPOKEN

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor ‘Blade Babe’ Marlou van Rhijn

‘Blade Babe’ Marlou van Rhijn won a gold medal in the 100, 200, and 400 metre race using her lower leg prosthetics. These kinds of world records appeal to our imagination. Just think of the man who has been given a better range of movement via an exoskeleton. Less visible are those who are given a prosthetic arm or leg after an accident or illness. How do you manage to restore your limb’s functionality as best you can via rehabilitation? What kinds of prosthetics are out there? What kind of innovations does the future hold?

Prof.dr. Hans Rietman is a rehabilitation specialist, professor of Rehabilitation Medicine and Technology (UT), and member of the Roessingh Research & Development management team.

This is a collaboration with Paradoks.

PERSONAL LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP *
Theme: Worrying

By T. Madorran (MST)

*DUTCH SPOKEN

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor piekeren

Professionals are people who like to have everything under control; they are hugely driven to achieve. Many professionals work hard, do their best, juggle many different things at once, are performance-oriented, always in a hurry, are very demanding of themselves, and feel responsible for everyone and everything. They combine family, education, work, and informal care for loved ones. Because of this heavy load, many professionals are pushing their own boundaries, are over-worked, get tired, get irritated by other people, lose the sense of enjoyment they used to feel for their work or feel their work is insufficiently acknowledged, tire themselves out, and forget to take care of themselves.

Eminent Preventie en Herstel has developed a programme for improving personal leadership by breaking one’s own habits. In this training, four fascinating approaches taken from modern behavioural sciences are taught, namely heart coherence, mindfulness training, cognitive psychology, and positive psychology. This programme is particularly good for training, coaching, and prevention purposes.

Are you that amazing multitasker who manages to get all the work in at your own expense?
Are you only ever taking care of others or trying to make sure everything is under control? If this sounds familiar, then this is the perfect workshop for you, to help you become more aware of yourself.

During this workshop, extensive attention will be paid to becoming aware of your own habits, to professional leadership, and to making choices. At its core, this workshop is about taking responsibility, increasing your awareness, and being proactive. In short, you will learn to no longer be guided by various stimuli in your environment, but instead take matters into your own hands; to switch from unconsciously learned behaviour to consciously chosen behaviour.
