Female Faculty Network Twente (FFNT)

The Female Faculty Network Twente invites you to a half day workshop:

“Networking: Do’s and Don’ts”

Led by Tineke Willemsen

Training for scientists (see www.bhertz.nl)

16 June 2016 from 13.30 till 17.00 hrs.

At Conference hotel Drienerburght

Networking in academia is about investing in a relationship without trying to get something in return immediately. Sometimes you get help unexpectedly from someone you met some time ago, or from someone who knows someone you have met. Networking is about building relationships.

Imagine yourself at a conference with interesting people you want to meet during a coffee break. You then need to present yourself, your work and your ideas in a couple of minutes and in an enthusiastic way (a so-called elevator pitch).

In this workshop we will discuss the do’s and don’ts of networking in an academic setting and we will practice the skills of the elevator pitch, inspired by the book: ‘Play like a man, win like a woman’, by Gail Evans.

Also attention will be paid to networking via social media:

• How to use it strategically and integrate in normal day routine

• How to combine it with other ways of networking

• What are the pitfalls of social media usage (if any)?

If you want to attend the workshop please register at: ffnt@utwente.nl. The number of places is limited to 12 and offered on the first come first serve basis.

If you cannot attend the event after registration, please cancel in writing before the workshop to contain the costs of the event. Thank you for your understanding.

Looking forward to seeing you in this workshop!

Kind regards on behalf of FFNT,

Prof. Liudvika Leisyte, Chair
