Female Faculty Network Twente (FFNT)

Dear ladies,

The Female Faculty Network Twente invites you to a half day workshop:

“Politics of Promotion”

Led by Brigitte Hertz

Training for scientists (see www.bhertz.nl )

7 December 2015 from 9.30 till 13.00 hrs.

In the Drienerburght Hotel

The poor representation of women in the higher levels of academia is brought about by various elements. Historical, cultural and socio-psychological factors all play a role, but women can certainly influence their own career opportunities to a considerable extent too. They need to make sure that others will notice their achievements and reward their efforts and can facilitate their promotion by negotiating advantageous terms. Women are not less suited for academic careers, but a lot of female talent is lost on the way to the top as noted in the recent book of Bonnie Marcus ‘The politics of promotion. How high-achieving women get ahead and stay ahead’.

In this workshop we will discuss the proposed strategies in navigating the political landscape of universities with the focus on networking. Participants will do various small exercises, based on the ideas and tips of this book. At the end of the workshop the participants will write down three actions they are going to undertake in the immediate future.

If you want to attend the workshop please register at: ffnt@utwente.nl. The number of places is limited to 12 and offered on the first come first serve basis.

If you cannot attend the event after registration, please cancel in writing before the workshop to contain the costs of the event. Thank you for your understanding.

Looking forward to seeing you in this inspiring workshop!

Kind regards on behalf of FFNT,
