Dr. Somayeh Malakuti

Somayeh Malakuti was born in Tehran, Iran, in 1980. She obtained her B.Sc. degree in software engineering from the 'Azad University- South Tehran division' (Tehran, Iran) in 2002. In 2006, she received her M.Sc degree, with the first rank, in software engineering from the 'Tarbiat Modares University' (Tehran, Iran). Before starting her Ph.D., she was involved in some industrial projects as software developer and designer.

Somayeh joined the Software Engineering chair (also known as Twente Research & Education on Software Engineering, TRESE) in March 2011 as a Ph.D. student. Her Ph.D. research has partially been in the context of the TRADER (Television Related Architecture and Design to Enhance Reliability) project conducted by the Embedded Systems Institute. Somayeh received her Ph.D. in September 2011.

Her Ph.D. research resulted in a new computation model named as Event Composition Model for the aspect-oriented languages, which improves the modularity, compose-ability and the abstractness mechanisms of the current aspect-oriented languages. Somayeh also proposed a new language named as EventReactor as the implementation of this computation model.

Since June 2011, Somayeh is a postdoctoral researcher at TRESE, preforming research for the ENOFES (Energy Optimization Framework for Embedded Systems) project. In this project, Somayeh extends the results of her Ph.D. research further and applies them for implementing energy-aware software systems.

Her research interests are in the design and implementation of (domain-specific) programming languages emphasizing on the modularity, compose-ability and abstractness of concerns. In addition, Somayeh is interested in employing such languages for designing and implementing self-* software for the purpose of green computing.
