Course description

In this course the basic principles of mobile radio communications systems and their associated performance are presented. It will provide understanding of fundamental problems in digital communications over dispersive wireless mobile channels and their countermeasures.

Content

Introduction to wireless communication systems;

Radio wave propagation, large-scale path loss;

Multipath propagation and fading;

Equalization;

Diversity techniques;

Modulation in mobile radio;

Multiple access techniques in mobile radio;

Modern operational systems, such as GSM and UMTS;

Ad-hoc radio systems, such as Bluetooth and Zigbee.
