Two papers at Essderc 2012
At the premier European Device conference Essderc, two articles by lead authors Alfons Groenland and Tom van Hemert were selected for an oral presentation. They were presented mid-September in Bordeaux, France. Alfons’ paper dealt with so-called nanolink heaters, a type of device that can reach a surface temperature of 280 °C at a power consumption of only 5.5 μW, orders of magnitude less than existing commercial hotplate devices. Alfons being preoccupied with his new job at Philips Research, the paper was presented by his co-promotor Alexey Kovalgin. Tom presented how he predicted, on the basis of theoretical calculations, a transistor architecture that can switch by a smaller voltage change then usual by employing a piezo-electric material.
