The willpower of the people from Syria

The war in Syria caused a lot of misery and distress, but the lives of many people still go on. This symposium reflects upon the question how to survive a war situation and make the best out of it. They find creative ways to make a living again – in or outside Syria – they dream of the future and they even make fun of the war.

Simone Gerard is a freelance photographer who went to Syria to see how people rebuilt their lives in the destroyed city of Aleppo.

Mohamad Mahayri grew up in Aleppo, where he studied Economics. He fled his country in 2016 and came to the Netherlands. He will talk about his new life as a bachelor student IBA at the UT and about his future ambitions.

Maria Elmeidaa & Muhammad Hamza Riaz from Connecting Hands (a Student Union’s initiative) organize events to take away prejudices about refugees and show what the UT’s community can do to help them.
