Course registration

  • When can I register for courses in Osiris?

Registration for courses in Osiris is possible four weeks and up to one day prior to the start of the new module.

  • How can I register in Osiris for resits of earlier years?

In case you have to redo tests or exams of earlier years, you have to register in Osiris yourself using the current course codes mentioned in the Programme Bachelor Mechanical Engineering overview (see me-curriculum-2023-2024.pdf).

Please note that some course codes have changed in the ME-curriculum 2023-2024. The study units consisting of 2 courses are split up into individual study units, having their own (new) course code. Due to this change, it might not be possible to register for some M1/M2/M3/M4 subjects via Osiris.

If the course is not in your exam programme (so you cannot click directly), use the option ''Or make a direct registration based on course code''.  The course will show outside your ME exam programme. This is OK (see next FAQ).

Make sure to register for the course code and for the module code, otherwise you won't get access to the module/course page on Canvas.

If you cannot register for your course in Osiris, you can send an e-mail to the Educational Affairs Office (BOZ) via boz-me@utwente.nl requesting to be registered for a specific study unit code. Include the following information:

    • Name and student number
    • Course name & course code
    • Module name & module code (providing access to canvas)
  • Osiris shows that an ME course is registered outside my exam programme. How can I fix this?

The course needs to be moved to your exam programme AFTER you have passed the course and the grade is registered in Osiris.

You can use this form Mechanical Engineering (BSc) | Forms for requests | Request for correction registration errors in Osiris (form)

  • I forgot to register in time, how can I be registered for my course(s) in Osiris?

Once the module has started, enrolment is only possible via the Educational Affairs Office (BOZ). You can send an e-mail to boz-me@utwente.nl requesting to be registered for study unit code(s) as well as the module code.

    Include the following information:

    • Name and student number
    • Course name & course code
    • Module name & module code (providing access to canvas)

Module and course codes can be found in the bachelor curriculum

  • I cannot register for my course in Osiris, how can I be registered?

You can send an e-mail to the Educational Affairs Office (BOZ) via boz-me@utwente.nl requesting to be registered for a specific study unit code.

    Include the following information:

    • Name and student number
    • Course name & course code
    • Module name & module code (providing access to canvas)

Module and course codes can be found in the bachelor curriculum

  • I am a 2nd/3rd year student and cannot register for the course Machine Elements, what should I do?

The course code has changed for Machine Elements and that is the reason why it does not work. You should use the new number (202300282) or, if that does not work either, you can ask our back-office to register the course for you (see for contact details previous Q&A).

Note: The credits for the course changed from 4 to 3EC, however you will get 4EC for the course if you got 3.5EC for the project of M4. It can be that the new course(code) will be placed outside your exam programme in Osiris. Once the grade is registered and sufficient, you need to fill out the online form to replace the grade into your exam programme (#course registration). This implies that the grade will be added to the original course code (thus 4EC).

Osiris registration

  • There is an error in the registration of my grades in Osiris.

You can report the errors via the form on the page Forms for requests | request for correction registration errors in Osiris (form).

  • The result of my resit of last year's course was registered outside the ME programme. How can I ensure that these results are included in my exam programme?

You can use this form Mechanical Engineering (BSc) |Forms for requests | Request for correction registration errors in Osiris (form) when a grade is registered under the (new) code for the separate course and should be to moved the (old) module / course code in the exam programme.

  • My grade is not registered in Osiris

First look at the bottom of your study progress overview in Osiris under other subjects. If your grade is registered there under the wrong code, you can correct this by using the form on the page Forms for requests | request for correction registration errors in Osiris (form).

If you did a course and got a grade, e.g. on Canvas, but it is not registered in Osiris yet, you should ask the teacher to register the grade in Osiris

Examinations

  • I am enrolled in the course in Osiris. Do I still need to register for my exam or resit?

No, as a bachelor student you are automatically registered for both exam opportunities when enrolled for the course in Osiris.

  • When are the resits this academic year?

Information about the resit weeks can be found on the page Academic Planning | Resits Mechanical Engineering

For the BSc Mechanical Engineering programme resits are scheduled in the next quarter. Math courses are an exception, their resits are scheduled at the last Friday of the module. During the resit weeks other educational activities may also be scheduled.

    • Resits for Q1 (M1 and 5): the week after the Christmas holidays.
    • Resits for Q2 (M2 and M6): the week after the holiday week in the third quarter.
    • Resits for Q3 (M3, M7 and M11): we aim at week 6 of the fourth quarter but the week depends on the dates of Ascension and Pentecost.
    • Resits for Q4 (M4 and M8): third week after the end of the fourth quarter.

Please note: the two weeks between the end of the fourth quarter and the resits of the fourth quarter can also be used for additional (extra) exams or project work.

  • I have two exams that overlap. What do I need to do?

You can take both exams in succession with a short break in between (so called double exam). You need to follow the procedure described on the page Rules & Procedures | Double Exam. Please note there is a deadline!

  • I have an oral project exam and a resit from previous year that overlap. What do I need to do?

It is important to inform your project coordinator of the resit date(s) to avoid double scheduling of the oral project exam and the resit(s)! Please do this at the start of the module.

A so-called double exam is only possible for two written exams, not for an oral and a written exam.

  • What happens when I fail or miss an exam, even if it is due to reason beyond my control, such as illness? Can I get an extra resit if I do not pass the scheduled resit?

You always have two opportunities for every course each year: the scheduled regular exam and the scheduled resit as an extra opportunity.

When you miss a scheduled exam opportunity due to reasons beyond anyone’s control and you fail the resit, your next opportunity will be during the following academic year. It is our policy that no extra exams or resits will be arranged throughout the current academic year.

  • Can I request to get an extra resit with the Examination Board?

This is only useful in case of unreasonable study delay (> 1 semester) or weighty circumstances (e.g. last course of the BSc program).

Please note that proof of your personal circumstances is required if relevant.

See Examination Board – How to Approach the Board

Committing fraud is an act of deceiving (the teacher/organization).
Scientific integrity is one of the key values for academic professionals and students. Violation of this scientific integrity (scientific misconduct) detracts from the contribution of science to society. As a member of the scientific community, students have to embrace and respect these important values. Scientific misconduct includes actions or negligence that detracts from the scientific integrity of the university, but also of the individual student and teacher.
A test or exam is intended to assess the knowledge, insight or skills of students (Article 7.10 WHW).
A fraud incident is reported by the teacher to the Examination Board by mail. In the mail he/she states the course, the date and time of the incident, the accuse and the student(s) involved.
Furthermore, the teacher explains his/her perception of the situation. Evidence to be included (not exhaustive list) are the exam, the student’s work, non-accused student work as a “normal” example; all preferably having the pdf format.
The student will be informed about the possible fraud/plagiarism case by either the teacher of the course or the Examination Board.

There should be an overlap in learning outcomes and content. To request an exemption send an email to the Examination Board with the request and provide a course description of the course you took elsewhere. Also provide a study progress report or other documentation that give proof of satisfactory results for the specific course(s).
You can ask for credit transfer after you finished the first module.
If you want to apply for credit transfer you need an official transcript of records (so signed and stamped) from the university you came from and if necessary course descriptions, example exams and other info (up to judgement of the Examination Board).

  • How often does the Examination Board meet? And when?

The Examination Board ME-SET meets every month. Incidentally additional meetings are planned to discuss urgent matters regarding rules, regulations and organization.
