General agreements

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

There are a number of agreements that the members of the Organic Gardening Society Drienerlo (BTD) are obliged to comply with. These agreements ensure, among other things, a good relationship with your garden neighbours and guarantee that all plants in the garden grow organically. Please read the terms and conditions carefully and stick to them.

1. Membership conditions

In order to become a member of the BTD, employees of the UT must also be or become a member of the UT-Kring. Registration for membership of the UT-Kring is possible via https://www.utwente.nl/en/ut-kring/membership/

Retired employees of the UT must also be or becomea  member of the senior association Gewis in order to become a member of the BTD. Registration for the membership of Gewis is possible via https://www.utwente.nl/nl/ut-kring/gewis/aanmelden/

When registering for membership of the BTD, please send proof of membership of the UT-Kring or Gewis.

Students do not need to become a member of another association to apply to the BTD. A working UT student email address is sufficient.

2. Organic gardening

Chemical pesticides, poisons and other nature-unfriendly chemicals are strictly prohibited in BTD gardens. Alternative methods to control diseases and weeds can be found in the garden tips. Artificial fertilizer is also not allowed. Use organic fertilizer and compost instead.

3. Compost and waste processing

Everyone has to deal with 3 types of waste in their own garden:

  1. Compostable green waste
  2. Non-compostable green waste
  3. Residual waste

Ad 1. Almost all green waste that comes from your garden (including weeds) can be composted. We assume that every member in every garden has a place for a compost heap or compost barrel. The compost that is created here can be used on the garden again the following season to enrich the soil. If you do not want to make compost yourself, you have to take the green waste home and throw it away in the green garbage can.

Ad 2. We also prefer that members take home to throw away non-compostable green waste such as weeds in seed, root weeds and turf with lots of soil. If that is not possible at all (e.g. for students living in rooms), only this non-compostable green waste can be dumped in a central location on the complex. Examples of non-compostable root weeds are: cultivated grass, horsetail, greater bindweed, large nettle and seven-leaf.

Ad 3. Anyone who brings other material to the garden (think of poles, stones, sticks, grids, etc.) must later dispose of it themselves when that material is no longer used.

4. Garden maintenance

To avoid disagreement between garden neighbours, each member is required to keep their own garden and the path to the right of it weed-free. Otherwise, the weeds spread rapidly, including to the neighbour's garden. The board of the BTD has the gardens checked three times a year. If it is found that the weeds are not sufficiently removed, the users of the garden will be instructed to remove the weeds as soon as possible. If the situation of poor maintenance persists despite several requests, the garden will be taken back and the deposit paid will not be returned.

5: General maintenance

All members of the BTD are expected to participate in the general maintenance of the garden complex on work mornings and evenings. These are organized regularly. During such a work morning, for example, the weeds can be removed from the main paths or the log cabin can be maintained. Every member must participate in a working morning or evening at least 3 times a year.
