The Dr. G.J. van Hoytema Award is awarded annually to a Twente-based healthcare professional affiliated with the University of Twente or Saxion University of Applied Sciences. This person, over the past year, has contributed to improving the quality of healthcare or public health by organising training, for example through an innovation implemented through training. The award, consisting of €5,000, is made possible by the Dr. G.J. van Hoytema Fund, a named fund at the Twente University Fund. This fund originated from the foundation of the same name, which was dissolved in 2024.
The aim of the prize is to reward the winner for the originality and effectiveness of the content, design and implementation of the training programme. The prize money must be spent on the further development, expansion or implementation of the results of the training programme in order to guarantee better practical assurance.
- Candidates are nominated by external parties and selected by the jury if they meet one or more of the following criteria:
- The training is aimed at improving care processes or increasing their quality.
- The training must have demonstrated or with reasonable certainty contributed to more efficient and effective treatment within healthcare or improved the health of patients or citizens.
- The training must have demonstrated or with reasonable certainty contributed to cost reduction or transitions in healthcare or changes in referral policy.
- The award is intended for professionals in Twente who work in the field of healthcare or public health.
- Candidates must be affiliated with or collaborate in some way with the University of Twente or Saxion University of Applied Sciences.
Candidates can be nominated until 1 September of that year, after which the jury will select the winner from among the nominees who best meet the criteria. The award ceremony will take place during the annual TechMed Event in November.
