THIS WORK PACKAGE SEEKS CUSTOMIZED MEDICATIONS...
In this work package, we will investigate whether it is possible to apply medications for osteoarthritis in a more personalized way. Not every form of osteoarthritis is the same, and therefore the same medication is not always needed. We base this on the results from earlier work packages (WP3, WP5, and WP6), in which we tried to classify people with osteoarthritis into smaller groups based on different characteristics of their disease. These are called subgroups. In this work package, we will then look at which medication works best for each subgroup.
HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO THIS?
We will test three medications that have been on the market for a while (and therefore no longer have patent protection, making them inexpensive) on people with osteoarthritis. We will examine whether these drugs actually have a beneficial effect on osteoarthritis symptoms. We will also look into whether we can identify subgroups of people for whom these medications do or do not work.
