Fundamental heterogeneous photocatalysis

AIM IS TO:

  • Develop a fundamental understanding of the effect of ions in photocatalytic applications, such as water splitting or water treatment (collaboration with Dr. I. Siretanu and Prof. F. Muggle, Physics of Complex Fluids -  University of Twente)
  •  Understand deactivation processes and particularly the dynamic nature of co-catalysts widely used in photocatalysis to promote charge separation and electrochemical surface reactions
  • Study the role of dopants/defects in perovskite materials, particularly SrTiO3
  • Determine degradation pathways and intermediates with focus on halogenated organic compounds in light-driven water treatment processes

EQUIPMENT:

  • Box reactor for degradation studies using 375 nm illumination (up to 8 reactors in parallel)
  • Water splitting reactor with online gas detection (µ-GC with PDD detector) and solar simulator
  • Quantum Efficiency and IPCE Measurement Kit (Newport Instruments)
  • Atomic Force Microscopy (equipment Physics of Complex Fluids group -  University of Twente)
