Solar to products program

Two proposals of the PCS group have been granted by the solar to products program of NWO.

The first proposal ‘Electrochemical reduction of CO2 to ethylene’ addresses research in the field of electrochemical CO2 reduction over electrodes optimized for productivity (Hollow Fiber based design) and chemical selectivity (among others by synthesis of alloyed metal nanoparticles), and is a cooperation between the PCS and FIF groups of the UT, TNO (VoltaChem, http://www.voltachem.com/), Shell, Utrecht University (Prof. Petra De Jongh), and Leiden University (Prof. Marc Koper).

The second proposal ‘Photo-Thermal conversion of CO2 and H2O to hydrocarbons’ is aimed at optimizing catalysts, process parameters, and reactor for concentrated photon, and thermally driven catalysis for the conversion of CO2 and H2O in a parabolic solar trough collector. The project is a cooperation between the PCS and CPM groups of the UT, and Abengoa Solar (http://www.abengoa.com/htmlsites/boletines/en/abril2012/ingenieria/).
