Recognizing and rewarding education

Recognising and rewarding talent is well on the agenda both nationally and within the UT. This is also strongly reflected in our new Shaping2030 organizational strategy. It is no coincidence that we choose to be a “People-First University of Technology”.

A few SKO alumni also said that recognising and rewarding educational achievements requires improvement. Reason for them to take up the challenge to improve it.

Kick-Off

As a kick-off, an online event was organised on May 14 and 15 for lecturers, HR managers, portfolio holders education, educationalists and policy officers. Together they have identified three themes that jointly contribute to a better recognition and rewarding of teachers. So-called action clusters have been put together around these three themes, in which a rich mix of colleagues from different faculties, departments and services participate.

• Action cluster 1 focuses on the further development of the educational criteria and professional career paths for teachers. The initiator of this action cluster is Mark van der Meijde (ITC).

• Action cluster 2 focuses on the development of HR Tools in order to be able to conduct the discussion about educational performance and substantiate this performance on the basis of this. Thomas Groen (ITC) is the initiator for this cluster.

• Finally, action cluster 3 focuses on research into possibilities for the development of a UT-wide Teaching Community. Robin de Graaf (ET) and Martine ten Voorde (CELT) are jointly responsible for this action cluster.

For all action clusters, the wheel does not have to be reinvented from scratch. Instead, available knowledge and best practices from the Netherlands and abroad are used. The leaders of the action clusters meet regularly in a core team in which Annalies Idema (HR and Raymond Loohuis (BMS) also participate. Together they will take care of the mutual connection and determine the next steps.

The first results will be delivered in the first quarter of 2021 and shared with gremia like Shaping Expert Groups (Innovation of Education; Individuals and Teams) and CvB-Deans.

If you would like more information about the developments within the action clusters, please feel free to contact one of the above-mentioned initiators, Annalies or Raymond.
