The start of the second edition of the UT Challenge is progressing apace according to the organisers. A total of more than 240 students created an account on the UT Challenge platform. 90 projects were registered for the 2nd edition of the UT Challenge, with 75 projects going through to the first round. These projects were featured on the website. From the 75 projects, 40 eventually remained.
These 40 projects progressed to the next round and on 8 May, hosted speed dates with the partner companies. The companies were given 60 seconds to introduce themselves to the students. Afterwards, ‘dates’ were set up in the Classroom of the Future for student teams and the companies. The day’s objectives were brainstorming, co-creation, networking and career planning.
Over the last few weeks, the UT Challenge partners (including Thales, ASML and VolkerWessels) have provided feedback to the participants through online coaching. A total of more than 210 chats were initiated. The chat function is still accessible and can be used throughout the programme; find it on the dashboard at www.utchallenge.nl.
Students Tijmen van den Elzen (TBK) and Jelmer Hendriks (IBA) are taking part in the UT Challenge with their business idea Big Eye. “We are working on an online tool for companies that automatically recognises, analyses and visualises data. This will benefit the efficiency of their business.”
Technical Medicine students Renée Hovenier and Silvana Riphagen are taking part in the UT Challenge with their idea for hospitals: “Caregivers are currently overburdened with false alarms from physiological monitors. We want to use an additional algorithm to minimise the number of false alarms without missing actual alarms, in order to reduce the workload for caregivers and improve patient safety.”
Entrepreneurial Day 21 June 2018
The final event of the UT Challenge can be attended during the Entrepreneurial Day on 21 June. On this day, the UT campus will be all about entrepreneurship. Peter Wennink from ASML has been invited as a guest speaker. There will be (pre) start-ups and next unicorns to admire. And the presentations of the Marina van Damme scholarship and the Van den Kroonenberg prize will take place. Registration is open now. Please register immediately to secure your seat.
