Young Talent Incentive Award for eight foundation-year students

On 28 November, eight students studying science and technology degree programmes at the University of Twente will be presented with a Young Talent Incentive Award worth € 500 at the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (KHMW) in Haarlem.

The lucky winners are: Maike de Jongh (Mathematics and applied mathematics), Frank Somhorst (Physics and applied physics), Jan-Jaap Korpershoek (Computer science and technical computer science), Naomi Hulst (Biomedical technology), Sangitha Harmsen (Advanced technology), Leon Smook (Chemical engineering), Jan Siemen Smink (Mechanical engineering and materials science) and Thijs Lieverse (Civil and maritime engineering). They attained the highest average marks in their year group, making them the best foundation-year students in their programmes at their university.

On 28 November, a total of 55 young talented students of science and technology will be presented with an incentive award in Haarlem. Their average mark was 9.25. Approximately 25 percent of the winners are women, which is considerably more than in previous years. The jury hopes that this long-awaited trend will now continue. Another striking development is that many of the winners attained more than the compulsory 60 ECTS credits in their first year by taking extra subjects (via an honours programme or double-degree programme, for example).

Every year, the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (KHMW) in Haarlem provides an independent jury and takes care of the awards ceremony. More students will be eligible for a Young Talent Incentive Award and Graduation Award next year. See also: www.khmw.nl.
