Ruben Kolkman was born the 27th of August 1994 in Almelo, The Netherlands. He obtained his master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, focusing on material and molecular engineering, from the University of Twente in June 2018. The master thesis was titled “Increasing the sensitivity for DNA detection by a micropillar-structured electrochemical biosensor” and performed in the molecular nanofabrication group at the University of Twente under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ir. Jurriaan Huskens. August 2018 Ruben has started as a PhD candidate in the molecular nanofabrication and BIOS lab on a chip group under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ir. Jurriaan Huskens and Dr. Ir. Loes Segerink. During this project Ruben will focus on the efficient excretion of hypermethylated DNA out of urine to enable the development of a microfluidic cancer sensor.
