Erik Hamming was born in Groningen, The Netherlands on the 28th of August 1993. He received his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Applied Physics from the University of Twente in 2014, presenting a thesis titled “Friction characteristics of azobenzene self-assembled monolayers”. After his bachelor’s, he continued for a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Molecular & Materials Engineering track, at the same university. During his master’s he did a 6-month internship at the Kimoon Kim research group in Pohang, Korea, titled “CB monolayer structure and kinetics of complexation”. He worked in the Molecular nanoFabrication (MnF) group under supervision of Prof. Dr. Ir. Jurriaan Huskens for his master thesis titled “Weak multivalent binding of poly(isobutylene-alt-maleic acid) derivatives at β-cyclodextrin surfaces”, graduating in May 2017.
Since June 2017, he is a PhD candidate in the MnF group under supervision of Prof. Dr. Ir. Jurriaan Huskens. His project is focused on elucidating the dynamics of multivalent systems made by combining intrinsically weak interactions.
