Andreas Schulz was born in Dortmund, Germany, on October 6th, 1986. He studied chemistry at the Ruhr-University Bochum, where he received his bachelor degree in March 2011. During his bachelor project he synthesized fluorescent peptides for targeting the EGF-receptor. Andreas received his M.Sc. in chemistry from the Ruhr-University Bochum in March 2013. The title of his project was ‘Synthesis and characterization of a macrocyclic ligand for binding to PNA oligomers and hydrolysis of miRNA-155’.
Since August 2013, he is a Ph.D. candidate under supervision of Prof. Dr. Ir. Jurriaan Huskens, Prof. Dr. Willem Vos and Prof. Dr. Julius Vancso at the University of Twente. The aim of his project ‘Tunable light sources’ is to design, fabricate, and characterize photonic crystals which can be influenced by different outside effects to change their emission rates.
