Andrea Leoncini was born in Poggibonsi (Siena), on May 20th 1988. He studied Chemistry in Pisa (Italy) and received his Bachelor degree in October 2010 (summa cum laude). In his bachelor project he studied the “preparation of core-shell fluorinated polymeric nanoparticles for the production of superhydrophobic films” under the supervision of Dr. Valter Castelvetro.

During his master course at the same university he spent six months as an Erasmus student working on the preparation of polymer brush-supported chiral organocatalyst in wall-coated microreactors under the supervision of Dr. Wim Verboom at the University of Twente, the Netherlands.

In October 2013 he graduated from the University of Pisa (summa cum laude). His master project, focused on “supported chiral proline and pyrrolidine organocatalysts for enantioselective C-C bond formation reactions”, was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Alessandro Mandoli.

Since November 2013 he is a PhD candidate in the Molecular Nanofabrication group under the supervision of Dr. Wim Verboom. The aim of his project is to develop new potential ligands for the complexation of actinide and lanthanide ions, either for their extraction from bulk radioactive waste or their stripping from an extracted organic phase for final processing of nuclear waste.
