Qi An was born in Heilongjing, China, on Jan. 30th, 1983. In 2001 she began to study chemistry in Tsinghua University, China, where she got her bachelor degree in 2005. In the same year, she began her Ph.D. study in the same university with Prof. Guangtao Li, in the lab of organic photoelectronics and molecular engineering. Her PhD thesis was entitled “Construction of nano/microstructures based on Cucurbit[n]uril”. During her PhD study, Qi proposed a method for constructing cucurbit[n]uril self-assembled monolayer on gold surface, and studied its molecular recognition properties. She also discovered and studied the aggregation behavior of cucurbituuril in solution to form micro/nano-crystals, assisted by certain guest molecules of cucurbituril.
Since August 2010, she has been working as a post-doctoral researcher for the Molecular NanoFabrication Group with Dr. Pascal Jonkheijm, and Prof. Dr. Jurriaan Huskens at University of Twente. Her current researches focus on developing switchable attachment of proteins on surfaces.
