I was born in Buzău (România) on the 22nd of November 1985. I moved to the capital, Bucureşti, just before starting school. Even before high school, I developed an interest in chemistry and began participating in chemistry olympiads – up to the national level, and earning some diplomas on the way.
I finished my 5-years university studies in just 4 years, and managed the second best average in my class. I studied chemical engineering, specializing in materials science and engineering at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest. I have also spent a semester in France as an Erasmus student at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Ingénieurs de Limoges, Department of Material Science. My diploma project focused on the synthesis and characterization of a stabilized ZrO2 SOFC’s electrolyte through sol-gel.In October 2008 I joined the Molecular Nanofabrication group at the University of Twente, as a PhD student. My work concentrates on π-conjugated oligomers patterned on designed surfaces for supramolecular biosensor applications. This project is supervised by Dr.Ir. Pascal Jonkheijm and Prof. Dr. Ir. Jurriaan Huskens.
