Vacancy for PhD student "Microflow Magnetic Resonance"

Within the Mesoscale Chemical Systems group a position for a PhD student is available on the topic of a miniaturized magnetic resonance flow probe. The aim of this project, which will be carried out in collaboration with TU Delft and several companies, is to develop a miniaturized magnetic resonance system, completed with integrated electronics for stabilization, excitation and detection. This system can be used as an online sensor to monitor and quantify the chemical composition of a liquid. It will also be possible to use it for flow measurement of multiphase systems, in the micro liter per minute range. The project builds on the knowledge of the previously developed and published microfluidic NMR stripline chip.

The candidate PhD student will become part of an international research group with a strong collaborative atmosphere. As part of the PhD program, you have the opportunity to further education within the Twente Graduate School. Besides, you may actively contribute in the teaching program, e.g. by supervision of MSc assignment and teaching assistance.

Your profile

You have (or are finalizing) a Master’s degree, preferably with distinction (or international equivalent) in (Applied) Physics, Electrical, Chemical or Microsystems Engineering, Nanotechnology, or a closely related discipline.

You have experience in the design, (numerical) modeling and fabrication of (micro)electronic or (micro)fluidic devices, or MEMS in general. Experience with thin film deposition and MEMS cleanroom processing is highly desired. You possess good knowledge and/or demonstrated awareness of one or more of the topics: electromagnetics/electrodynamics, physical chemistry, and hydrodynamics. Previous practical experience with magnetic resonance (NMR) is preferred.

You have an ability to work independently and as a member of a research team. A collaborative attitude is strongly desired.

You are able to review and engage with interdisciplinary studies and are driven by curiosity. Excellent analysis skills and an analytical mind-set, as well as excellent communication skills, including written. English language proficiency is a must and a written test will be part of the interview procedure.
