Analysis & characterization services

EMI Twente has access to extensive state-of-the-art research facilities which it shares with the Membrane Science and Technology cluster (MST). We are fully integrated within the MST cluster and have direct access to their innovative knowledge. Moreover, as being part of the University of Twente, we have access to the labs and equipment of various research groups, for example the cleanrooms of the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology.

 Our expertise, experience and equipment allow us to analyze and characterize the properties of a broad range of membrane types: from open porous to dense, from polymeric to ceramic, flat sheet to hollow fiber membranes. The techniques we apply are also extremely diverse and include, amongst others, porometry (from 0.5 nm to 3000 nm), microscopy (optical, SEM and FE-SEM), high-pressure gas and vapour separation, thin film characterization (ellipsometry, quartz crystal microbalance), waterflux-fouling diagnosis, ion-exchange capacity (IEX), ion exchange membrane resistance and permselectivity measurements.
