Embedding developmental BioEngineering
We are a group of polymer and pharmaceutical chemists, material scientists, and biomedical engineers interested in developing smart, soft biomaterials for healthcare.
We offer a variety of student projects for chemists, biomedical engineers, and material scientists, and an excellent supervision and team spirit. We employ tools from synthetic organic/polymer chemistry, biomaterials science, engineering and cell biology, to create smart biomaterials for biomedical applications. Depending on your background and particular interests, the project can be focused in one (or more) of these disciplines.
We look for motivated, enthusiastic and pro-active students to complement and contribute to our team.
These projects are currently available in our group:
- Ion-conductive hydrogels for cardiac tissue modeling (collaboration with Andries van der Meer and Rober Passier from AST group, Chris Nijhuis from HMOE group)
- 3D mapping chemical and mechanical gradients of breast tumor microenvironments using on-chip smart hydrogel platforms (collaboration with Séverine Le Gac from AMBER group)
- Nitric oxide (NO) releasing therapeutic hydrogels for topical application to the heart (collaboration with international partners)
- Lung adhesive hydrogels for treatment of lung diseases (collaboration with Jeroen Leijten, DBE group)
- 3D printable bioinks based on dynamic covalent adaptable hydrogels with stress-relaxing and self-healing properties.
