My name is Veerle Diederiks and I was born in Leusden on the 14th of May in 1997. I’ve always had a great interest in biology and physics, which made the study Biomedical Engineering at the University of Twente a great fit. Currently I am in the 3rd year of my bachelor. To obtain my bachelor degree I am working on an assignment at the Clinical Neurophysiology group.
The goal of my assignment is to predict in early stages if comatose patients will regain consciousness. At the moment, for 40-50% of the patients an accurate prognosis can be given by visually evaluating EEG signals. To augment this number, new methods are being explored. The study I am working on aims to predict neurological outcome by using network analysis.
