As a Biomedical Engineering student at the New University of Lisbon, Portugal, I am currently doing my Master thesis with the CNPH group regarding the application of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) for data augmentation in the detection of Interictal Epileptiform Discharges (IEDs). Having previously done an internship in the Neurophysiology service of the Portuguese Institute of Oncology - Lisbon, my aim is to contribute to finding solutions that improve the way the diagnosis of neurological disorders is performed.
Besides wanting to explore Deep Learning as a way of automating clinical tasks which are still overly demanding and consequently prone to misdiagnosis, my interests go as far as the application of Biomedical Engineering to find solutions for medicine can go. Applying these tools to veterinary medicine and to developing simple and effective solutions in countries or environments where there are few resources available are some of the fields I would also like to explore.
