My name is Gianmarco De Vecchis and I was born in Genova on the 8th of June 1995. I studied Biomedical Engineering at the University of Genova (Italy). In 2017, I graduated writing a thesis entitled “Realization of an actuator using a dielectric elastomer”, carried out under the supervision of prof. dr. Roberto Raiteri. I’m currently studying Bioengineering at the University of Genova and I will do my Master Thesis at the University of Twente.
During my thesis, I will investigate the effect of transient hypoxia on activity using neurons derived from induced pluripotent stem cells from healthy subject grown on multielectrode arrays. I will investigate whether stimulation (electrical or light stimulation) during hypoxia phase can increase the recovery of the neuronal network activity when cells are re-exposed to normoxia codition.
