On Wednesday December 7th Prof. Nathalie Katsonis received the NWO Athena Award 2016 from the committee chair Prof. Izabel Arends. The award ceremony was held during the CHAINS conference and included a short video. Awarded to a top chemical talent every year, the Athena Award rewards women who perform excellent research in Chemistry and combine it with active outreach activities.

BIO-INSPIRED AND SMART MATERIALS

Prof. Nathalie Katsonis is head of the group “Bio-inspired and smart materials”. The aim of the group is to develop smart materials that are inspired by the multiscale, sophisticated and stimuli-responsive architectures that are found in nature. To this end, the group relies on controlling the expression, transmission and amplification of chirality, from the nanoscale (the molecule) to the supramolecular level. This research implies a special focus on light-responsive systems also.
