Sandra was born in Toulon (France) on the 13th of May 1989. She studied biology and biotechnology at Aix-Marseille University. In 2013, she started her PhD in Biology in the Institut de Microbiologie de la Méditerranée in the LISM lab under the supervision of Dr Romé Voulhoux. During her PhD she specialized in microbiology and obtained skills in biochemistry, molecular biology and synthetic biology. She taught molecular biology and biochemistry to undergrad students and supervised iGEM teams for international synthetic biology competitions. She defended her PhD entitled “Study of the type II secretion system of Pseudomonas aeruginosa : towards a better understanding of the machinery and its dynamic” on December 2017.
She moved with her family in the Netherlands on June 2018 and started a post-doc with Prof. dr. Jeroen Cornelissen on October. The aim of the project is to use the encapsulin to attack the pathogenic bacteria with bacterial toxins.
